With the nation focused on the coronavirus, very little has been heard about the status of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in Alabama. Chuck Sykes, Director of the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) Division, has some cautious good news about the spread of CWD in the South. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources announces that the two-week firearms hunting season for sika and white-tailed deer opens Nov. 28 and runs through Dec. 12New this year, deer hunters may use rifles and handguns that employ straight-walled cartridges in all counties. Missouri Waterfowl Hunters Reminded of New 2020 Daily Waterfowl Draw Procedures

ODFW Confirms Fungal Infection Strikes Geese in Willamette Valley

ODFW wildlife biologists are aware of over 100 cackling geese that have died in various parts of the Willamette Valley over the last month. Carcasses have been retrieved from Fernhill in Forest Grove, Sauvie Island Wildlife Area and east of Amity. Tests show a majority of the cackling geese died from aspergillosis, a fungal infection. Hunters are gearing up for the start of Vermont’s traditionally popular 16-day regular deer season that begins Saturday, November 14 and ends Sunday, November 29.
