New 2021 Five-Week Turkey Season Opens in West Virginia April 19

Beginning this year, West Virginia’s statewide spring gobbler season will run for five weeks instead of four, officials said. The 2021 season opens Monday, April 19. The season still opens the third Monday in April but now ends May 23, eight days later than last year. Hunters can harvest one bearded bird per day with a season bag limit of two. Apply for California Big Game Tags Starting April 15

California 2021 tags for elk, pronghorn, bighorn sheep, and premium deer hunts are issued through the big game drawing. Applications for the big game drawing are available each year on April 15 through June 2. New Law Impacts Iowa Boat Operators on Federal Waterways

A new federal law went into effect on April 1, that requires the operator of a boat with an installed Engine Cut-Off Switch (ECOS) to use the ECOS link while operating on all federally navigable waterways. In Iowa, that means the four flood control reservoirs: Coralville, Rathbun, Red Rock and Saylorville; and the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish will conduct roadblocks throughout the state during hunting and fishing seasons to collect harvest data and to detect wildlife law violations. Oregon Turkey Hunt by Reservation Program Returns for Second Year

An Oregon program launched last year to help turkey hunters reserve a hunt on private land in western Oregon (Willamette Valley and Roseburg) is back up and running for the 2021 season. There is no cost to reserve a hunt, but hunters must purchase a 2021 hunting license and turkey tag prior to their hunt and follow all hunting regulations and program rules. South Dakota Accepting Tag Returns for All Limited Draw/Big Game Seasons - Deadlines Apply

The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) is now accepting tag returns for all big game and limited draw seasons. Maryland Issues New Regulations for 2021 Chesapeake Bay Striped Bass Fishing

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources announces new regulations for the 2021 Chesapeake Bay summer-fall striped bass season. The 2021 summer-fall season in most areas of the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal tributaries will be open May 16 through July 15, and resume August 1 through Dec. 10. The 2021 recreational crabbing season in Maryland officially opened April 1 for the Chesapeake Bay and tidal tributaries as well as in the Atlantic Ocean, coastal bays and their tributaries. Recreational crabbing in Maryland can be done a variety of ways, with or without a license depending on the equipment and location. MDC to Offer Five Permits for 2021 Elk Hunting Season

The Missouri Conservation Commission approved Missouri’s second annual elk-hunting season at its March 26 meeting. The Commission approved the MDC recommendation of issuing five permits for hunting bull elk for the 2021 season. At least one permit will be for qualifying area landowners with the remainder for the general public. MDC will limit the random drawing to one application per-person, per-year with a 10-year “sit-out” period for those drawn before they may apply again. Missouri turkey hunters can expect this spring season to be about as challenging as the past few spring seasons according to the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). Ohio 2021 Yellow Perch Daily Limit Reduced on Lake Erie Effective May 1st

A declining population of Lake Erie yellow perch in the central basin has prompted a reduction in the daily limit to 10 from Huron to Fairport Harbor beginning Saturday, May 1, 2021, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. TPW Emergency Action in Effect for Laguna Madre Spotted Seatrout

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission recently took emergency action to change the bag and size limits on spotted seatrout in the Upper and Lower Laguna Madre due to the coastal freeze and subsequent fish kill in Feb. 2021.
