Close to 60 Million Acres of Alaska Public Land Could Soon be Closed to Sport Hunters

Would you believe that one tele-meeting on April 23 stands between would-be caribou and moose hunters and their access to nearly 60 million acres of public federal land in Northwest Alaska? It’s an issue that hasn’t made waves until now, but it’s one hunters should know about. The forthcoming public hearing which would close all federal lands within Game Units 23 and 26A to moose and caribou hunters who aren’t federally qualified subsistence users from Aug. 1 through Sept. 30, 2021, which happens to coincide with the non-resident hunting season for caribou in Unit 23, and most of it in Unit 26A. Missouri Angler Catches World Record-Sized Spotted Gar   The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) congratulates Devlin Rich of Williamsville for catching a new state record spotted gar. Rich was fishing with a pole-and-line at Wappapello Lake Feb. 25 when he reeled in the 10-pound, 9-ounce fish. His catch is not only the latest Missouri state record, but it beats the current spotted gar world record of 9-pounds, 12-ounces set back in 1994. Registered Oregon & Washington anglers fishing near the Tri-Cities, WA, can fish and turn in northern pikeminnow beginning April 19 as part of an early opening trial of the 2021 Northern Pikeminnow Sport Reward Fishery. The Ohio Wildlife Council approved all 2021-22 hunting regulations during its meeting on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, according to the Ohio ODNR.
