Minnesota Continues Simplified 2021 Spring Turkey Regulations

Minnesota hunters hoping to bag a tom turkey with a firearm this spring will see similar regulations as last year, and will not be restricted to a single permit area. A spring turkey license will provide the opportunity to hunt all permit areas in the state, with the exception of three major wildlife management areas. Hunter Education Field Day Required for Oregon Youth to Hunt as of April 1

Oregon youth hunters (age 17 and younger) will need to fully complete their hunter education certification, including completing a field day, to hunt in Oregon on their own tag as of April 1, 2021. Hunter education classes and field days were cancelled or more limited last year due to Covid-19 restrictions statewide. South Dakota Commission Amends Nest Predator Bounty Program

The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) Commission recently amended a resolution to the Nest Predator Bounty Program for this year and next. The resolution indicates that the 2021 program will include a payment of $10/predator and a cap of $500,000. The deadline to report most tags and avoid any penalties is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 31. Maryland Angler Catches Record Flathead Catfish   A Cecil County resident has officially been recognized by the Maryland DNR as the first-ever state record holder for the invasive flathead catfish. Joshua Dixon caught the 57-pound, 50-inch long flathead catfish (Pylodictis olivaris) on Dec. 27, 2020 fishing near the Lapidum Boat Ramp on the Susquehanna River. The 34-year-old angler was fishing from shore with Zoom plastic swimbait, and said it took nearly 30 minutes to pull in the flathead.
