Funding for the program primarily comes from revenue generated by the Habitat Stamp and hunting and fishing licenses and from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO).
The CWHP has conserved over 283,000 acres of wildlife habitat across Colorado and has provided 119,000 acres of new public access since the program’s inception in 2006.

Publishers Notes: Our country is still battling COVID-19. To avoid the spread of this virus and continue to enjoy outdoor activities, ALL outdoor enthusiasts (man, woman, child) should follow the guidelines set by nps.gov. These guidelines include; social distancing, the Leave No Trace principles, including pack-in and pack-out, to keep outdoor spaces safe and healthy.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Colorado Wildlife Habitat Program (CWHP) expects to release its Request for Proposals (RFP) in September 2021, with an anticipated application deadline of October 28. Applicants should note this is a change from the historic schedule where the program began in March with a May deadline.
CWHP is an annual funding program for landowners interested in conserving their wildlife habitat and/or providing public access to their land. It funds conservation easements, public access easements, and occasionally fee title acquisitions.
"Moving the schedule helps CPW align with other division processes,” said CWHP Manager Amanda Nims. “It provides CPW an opportunity to better promote the program across the state and helps provide flexibility for stakeholders, including staff and Habitat Stamp Committee reviewers who will now review and rank proposals in early winter.”
